About seattle ecstatica

Our story
Standing on the shoulders of ecstatic dancers past and present
Seattle Ecstatica emerges from more than 16 years of ecstatic dance at OmCulture and over 24 years of Seattle’s ecstatic dance lineage, begun by pioneer Mary Anderson. We honor the legacy of our elders and all the dancers who inspired us, from shamanic and communal dance traditions across the world, including the Duwamish and Suquamish peoples who have danced on this land for hundreds of years, to Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms, and to Seattle’s early dance leaders like Mary Anderson, Scot Robinson, Bruce Carloye, Kellie Shannon Elliott, Jon Elizondo, and Michael Suzerris. Thank you for each contributing your heart and soul to this movement!

The legacy continues
Now, under the guidance of Adnan and Noé—and supported by dozens of DJs, facilitators, HeartTenders, workshop leaders, and volunteers—Seattle Ecstatica continues the dance forward. Each week, we gather to celebrate movement, music, creativity, and connection, building a living, breathing village where everyone can belong.

Our vision
Dancing for healing, connection, and a vibrant community
We dream of communities where creativity, expression, and embodiment bring people together—where dance, music, and shared presence awaken our capacity to care, heal, and belong. Each week at Seattle Ecstatica, we enact this vision by creating spaces where all identities, bodies, and backgrounds are welcome, seen, and celebrated. Our commitment includes racial equity, accessibility, neurodiversity inclusion, consent culture, LGBTQIA+ affirmation, body liberation, and honoring diverse spiritual paths. Together, we show up to dance, listen, and grow, building collective care in motion.

FOUNDERS
Playful hearts, curious minds
Adnan and Noé met through contact improvisation and shared exploration of meditation, consciousness, and the nature of reality. Their friendship is equal parts giddy laughter, creative adventure, and deep inquiry. Through Seattle Ecstatica, they invite others who love to dance, create, sing, meditate, and play to join in the magic they find together.

We want to hear from you! Share ideas, wishes, or feedback about workshops, events, or the community. Every suggestion helps Seattle Ecstatica grow and evolve.
FINANCIAL AID
Dance belongs to everyone
We believe access to ecstatic dance should not be limited by finances. Our financial aid program helps ensure that students, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, caregivers, and anyone experiencing financial barriers can join the community and participate fully.

Consent resources
How does consent work on the dance floor?
Consent is the heartbeat of every dance at Seattle Ecstatica. It’s how we make the floor safe, joyful, and free for everyone—whether you’re moving solo, partnering, or exploring new rhythms. Learning the simple signals, guidelines, and practices helps everyone feel respected and connected, so the magic of the dance can flow.
