A: We are an ecstatic dance event, and are committed to co-creating a dance where everyone feels welcome and safe to be themselves and to express freely through movement, without judgment.
A: BloomDance offers a unique blend of experiences beyond traditional ecstatic dance. All around the dance floor we feature live art from local artists, adding visual inspiration to your journey. You’ll also find delicious refreshments in our tea lounge, you can savor heart-opening cacao in our dedicated cacao lounge. Our massage area provides a space for relaxation and rejuvenation. And our kitchen creates tasty treats all night. This combination of elements creates a richer, more immersive experience that blends movement, creativity, and community in a way that enhances the dance experience. It’s also over 5 hours long, making it more of a mini-festival than a dance.
A: Doors open at 7pm and we encourage you to arrive then to settle into the space comfortably. Opening circle begins at 7:45pm, but if for some reason you cannot make it on time, we would still love for you to join, so come! We will have someone share what you need to know when you arrive.
BloomDance is held at OmCulture in Seattle.
A: The purpose of ecstatic dance is as diverse as the dancers who join. For some, it's a therapeutic form of somatic release, letting the body process emotions and stress through movement. Others find it to be a canvas for artistic self-expression, where the dance becomes a living art form. It’s also a fun way to exercise, moving freely without judgment or structure, and a beautiful space for bonding with others in a shared, joyful experience. Some come to get a little weird, embracing the freedom to be playful and creative. For many, it’s a deeply spiritual practice, a way to connect with something greater than themselves. Ultimately, ecstatic dance is what you make of it—a space to explore, express, and connect, however you need in the moment.
A: For such a seemingly simple practice, there are a growing list of benefits to ecstatic dance:
Reduces Stress
Boosts Mood
Ignites Creativity
Strengthens Mind-Body Connection
Builds Community
Improves Fitness
Encourages Emotional Release
Promotes Mindfulness
Fosters Joy and Freedom
A: Wear whatever makes you feel free and comfortable! There’s no dress code, just bring your true self. Some people love to dance in flowing clothes that move with them, while others prefer something more fitted. Bare feet are welcome, but if you need support, soft dance shoes are fine too. Most importantly, choose something that lets you move easily and feel at home in your body. This is your space to express yourself, so wear what helps you dance with joy and abandon.
A: Absolutely, you can come to ecstatic dance alone! Many people find it a great opportunity to connect with themselves and meet new friends in a welcoming environment. Whether you're there to dance freely, relax, or explore, you'll find a supportive community ready to embrace you. So, come as you are and enjoy the experience!
A: No, you don’t. Some people enjoy dancing together, but there is no expectation that you do so. You may dance by yourself or with others so long as you have their consent.
A: When approaching someone to dance, start by checking in with yourself and your intentions. Ask yourself if dancing with this person feels like a positive and respectful way to connect. Next, pay attention to the other person's energy—they may not be open to contact at that moment. If you're unsure, try dancing near them and see if they respond positively. Only move closer or initiate contact if it's clear they’re comfortable and interested. Always respect their boundaries to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable.
A: You’ll often see group dancing at BloomDance. In order to safely and comfortably enter a dance, first observe the energy of the group. If the energy of the group feels inviting, which you can tell by making eye contact with the people, you can gently step into the dance, avoiding any inappropriate touching. However, if it’s a small group of people who all seem to know each other, it’s respectful to wait for a larger group dance to join.
